THE INTERVAL

What is being prepared sometimes tells us more than what is shown.

I often photograph what comes before: the gestures of adjustment, the bodies waiting, a gaze still elsewhere, the material before it begins to move. Backstage, something still exists without seeking to be seen.

Beauty also exists in what is not yet ready.
Before it is seen, a garment is touched, adjusted, inhabited.
A garment never exists alone. It encounters a body, an era, a way of being in the world.
Between anticipation and appearance.

Every appearance bears the trace of invisible gestures.
The show draws near. Time, meanwhile, seems to stand still.
Each appearance leaves a trace. Some continue to inhabit us.
