An ongoing exploration — Lacoste, Luberon

The first time I came here, I barely took any photographs. I looked: at the studio, the gestures, the material, the light passing through the space. Above all, I tried to understand what had made me want to return.

Before the images, there is sometimes simply a presence.

I am not yet trying to tell a story. First, I try to stay long enough for it to emerge.

This project grew out of my encounter with Gabriel and his work as a sculptor in the Luberon. I returned once. Then again. With each visit, something becomes clearer, while something else deliberately remains open.

I photograph his work, of course, but also everything that exists around it: the gestures that precede the work, the tools, the traces, the materials, the moments of waiting, the landscape. Everything that quietly contributes to the creative process without necessarily appearing in the finished work.

To photograph can also mean this: accompanying something as it comes into being.

Little by little, the photographs become traces of our encounters. Some things return. Others disappear. The place changes. So does the light. The works evolve, and my gaze shifts with them.

I do not yet know exactly what form this work will take. I want to preserve that space: the one in which the project exists before being defined.
